The mission of the PHS Educational Foundation is to help close the educational opportunity gap for financially challenged Paschal High School students.
The PHS Educational Foundation help close the opportunity gap through mentoring, providing speakers from various professions to broaden the students' career perspectives, and by supporting the AVID teachers and program as needed.
The PHS Educational Foundation started in 2010 for the purpose of Mentoring 25 seniors in the first graduating class for the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Program in writing essays and applying to colleges. Today 18 mentors work with over 250 AVID students from 9th through 12th grades. Mentoring activities include the administration and review of the SIGI3 Career and College Assessment Program, the development of personal mission and vision statements, the discussion of topics covering integrity, rapport building, Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens, and other character-building subjects. Mentors also assist seniors in applying for college entrance and scholarships.
The Foundation awards 15 – 20 $1000 Opportunity Scholarships per year, sponsors the Year-end Celebration Banquet, sponsors the PHS AVID teacher’s registration fees to the AVID Summer Training Conferences, as well as supporting numerous student education-related financial needs.
